Minutes for Spiritual Growth and Education Meeting - Tuesday, Sept. 5

Angela opened the meeting with a time of sharing on Sunday’s gospel. Angela Hennigan, Barbara Rohmer, Mark Hesse, Karen Davis, and Martha Sicking were present.

It was agreed that Jeannine had taken care of the thank you notes for Father McCaffrey’s mission.  Barbara reported that there were still some free CD’s available.

We discussed not having the Family Movie Night scheduled for Sunday, September 17, since the Unity and Fellowship Group is sponsoring the Family Picnic the following Sunday, September 24.

We discussed the Second Sunday presentation for this coming Sunday, September 10.  Karen said she would be in charge of opening up the meeting room and showing the video on Eucharistic Adoration.  Toni Deweber from Unity and Fellowship will see about refreshments.  The video has  interviews  of various people who testify to the impact that perpetual adoration has had in their parishes in San Antonio.  Ange Popovich has agreed to share her experiences of adoration as well.

We talked about how Jeannine has the prayer chain being done by email now and how great that was.  We are anxious to find out more from her.

Angela talked about how the Council of Ministries would like to have a monthly calendar in the bulletin to give parishioners an idea of the various meetings and events for the coming month.

ACTS Retreats are scheduled for November 9 through 12 for men and November 30 through December 3 for women.  They will be held at Camp Copass in Denton.  There will not be any more ACTS retreats until next fall because Sacred Heart people will be taking charge and it takes 10 months for a new team to prepare to take over.  Mark Hesse talked about the offer that Andy Reed from Turtle Hill Conference Center has made to the ACTS group.  If they will use their labor to finish the inside of one of the cabins, Turtle Hill will give them “three years of free retreats.”  This does not include food.

In regard to Whole Community Catechesis, Barbara reported that she would like to invite Dan Luby from the diocese to talk to the parish as a whole about the topic sometime rather than show the video.  Angela mentioned that she would like to show the video to the Council of Ministries.  It was agreed that we should not try to set Whole Community Catechesis in motion until we get a new resident pastor and see if he would be supportive.

Janie Fisher had contacted both Angela and Barbara about the group RADIX coming to Muenster.  These two young men do dramatic presentations on called  “The Passion” and The Martyrs.”  They also give talks on various topics and can do musical presentations.  They are going to be in the area and we would not have to pay their airfare.  We would have to have a love offering.  Janie had asked if they could come the weekend of November 18 or 19.  November 19th is the Thanksgiving Picnic and the Community Center is used on the 18th in preparation.  We did think that we could serve a light supper at the KC Hall if it is available and then have them do a presentation at 7 pm in church.  Karen said she had seen the video of the Passion and it was very good.  Angela will follow up on this.

Martha Sicking talked about some of the Respect Life programs she is planning.  Sunday, Oct. 1, is Respect Life Sunday and there will be Life Chains in Gainesville, Lindsay, and Muenster, along Hwy 82.  On Sunday, October 8 - for the Second Sunday series, Betsy Kopor will be here to talk about the Rachel Vineyard retreats for women and men who have experienced the aftermath of having an abortion.  She will also talk from 3 to 5 minutes at each of the Masses and information will be handed out or left in the pews for anyone who wants it.  She also talked about Father Michael Olson coming to do an “End of Life” seminar for our parishioners, but especially our older folks.  It was suggested that perhaps he come and talk to the people who attend SNAP during the day and speak again in the evening.    She also suggested having the group TOBET (Theology of the Body Evangelization Team) from the Dallas Diocese come and do a session on the Theology of the Body.  We talked about doing a “Valentine’s Candlelight Dinner” for young married couples on either Saturday, February 10 or February 17, and having TOBIT do a presentation then.

We talked about whether we wanted to do the Advent Wreath presentation and give materials to families before Advent.   We decided that instead of giving materials out, we would just do a presentation for our Second Sunday series on “Advent Traditions and Practices” on Sunday, November 12.  There is a workshop at the Ministry Formation Day in Wichita Falls on Saturday, September 23, on that topic and Barbara thought she could get some ideas then.  She will be in charge of that session.

The Second Sunday is December is the 10th.  Since it is so close to the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we decided that we would show a video or have a speaker talk about her and her powerful intercession.

Barbara suggested that since we cannot do the one-day Life in the Spirit Seminar with the Constanios in the spring that we could use local people and do it in seven weeks meeting on Sunday evenings.  We could begin on February 11 and end on Sunday, March 25 (the Sunday before Palm Sunday).  This seminar offers people the opportunity to really open up to the power and gifts of the Spirit and is more than just listening to information.  Since there will not be any ACTS Retreats this spring, we thought that it would be a good thing to have.  Barbara will talk to the Bill and Mary West and Vickie and Elmo Self from St. Mary’s about helping with it.

Angela said that we were asked to come up with dates for the ACTS Retreats in October of 2007.  So we came up with the dates of Oct. 4 through 7 for the men’s ACTS and Oct. 18-21 for the Women’s ACTS retreat.

Angela announced that we should start thinking about a new chairperson.  She will be stepping down after December.

Respectfully,

Barbara Rohmer

(substituting for Jeannine Flusche)

NEWS FLASH!  Don Rohmer talked to Father John Robert Skeldon this weekend about doing a Bible Study on Saturdays similar to those he is doing elsewhere.  He was agreeable.  Don got his email address and will communicate with him about it some more.  Father John Robert said he will be starting in other places this week.
