Present were:  Stella Hess, Kim Felderhoff , Sug Bindel, Betty Rose Walterscheid, Jerry Walterscheid, Patty Fuhrmann, Don Flusche and Betty Flusche, and one new member, Kathy Hess.  Welcome Kathy… and we are so delighted to have you as a member of our parish committee!

The meeting began with the “Lord’s Prayer”.

The committee decided to serve refreshments after the celebration of the evening mass on the Feast of the Sacred Heart on Friday, June 15.  We will be serving under the pavilion near the community center building.  All members were asked to bring 2-3 dozen cookies, or some brownies or cup cakes.  Those members attending volunteered to call those not in attendance and ask them to bake cookies & etc.

Betty Rose and Betty Flusche gave a report to the committee on the luncheon of Church Women United of Cooke County.  Those attending from Muenster were Sidney Reynolds, Juanita Bright, Carol Aytes, Janie Weinzapfel, Louise Fisher, Betty Rose Walterscheid, Rosemary Dankesreiter, and Betty Flusche.  It was held on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 12 noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.  The program was presented by the women of the Bethel AME Methodist church.

Betty Flusche on behalf of Juanita Bright, who was unable to attend the meeting, presented information on Arms Around Cooke County to the committee.  It is a prayer ministry open to members of all interdenominational churches in Cooke County. This organization holds services at various churches in the community twice a month on Thursdays .The ministry prays for those in the community who are addicted to drugs.  They pray for freedom from drugs, the manufacture of drugs, the distribution of drugs throughout the county, freedom from gun sales and related driveby shootings and other violent crimes that come out of drugs.

Arms Around Cooke County is not just about praying for the negative aspects of life in Cooke County.  It also reaches out to law enforcement, not just the officers but also their spouses and older children.  The ministry strives to pray for pastors of community churches and to help them better understand the plight of troubled people such as drug addicts.

At the close of each bi-monthly prayer service, attendees get up and join hands…a symbolic gesture that is a very powerful and emotional experience.  The next meeting is at 5:45 on May 10 at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, 317 W Scott Street, Gainesville. Cindy Stormer is scheduled to be the guest speaker.

A discussion was held on the second annual, “Family Day in the Park”.  Patty Fuhrmann volunteered to head up a volleyball tournament for the youth.  Betty Flusche will ask Father Ken if the game of bingo with prizes would be permissible.  We all agreed that someone needs to be in charge of the karaoke entertainment and give directions to the performers.

After the completion of the renovation of the community center building, we would like to invite Bishop Vann to rededicate the building and follow with a covered dish meal.

Betty Rose closed the meeting with a prayer.
