Unity and Fellowship
Regular Meeting
June 13, 2006
Betty Ann called the meeting to order at 7:45pm.
Werner led opening prayer.
Betty Ann welcomed St Anne Society members, and asked for ways the two groups could combine efforts to welcome new members to our Parish.
-A “Welcome Packet” with information about the Church and community was discussed. These could be at City Hall, SH business office, post office, golf course…
-A gathering to meet and greet new members was presented; perhaps snacks between masses or a potluck.
-Imelda R noted the need for volunteers in various ministries and possibly working the two tasks together would be beneficial (being involved with church functions certainly makes one feel welcome).
-A need to revamp the format for Festival of Ministries was noted to better utilize those who sign-up.
-Betty Rose suggested greeters at the masses could carry cards for people to fill out with name, phone #, address,…
The cards could easily go into a basket or box for a designated member (U/F or St Anne) to check weekly.
-Various functions after or between masses were discussed, such as wine & cheese, coffee & donuts, and potlucks.
The success of these in the past was also noted.
-Planning a specific weekend each month for a get-to-gether of some type ensued. SG&E’s plans for “Second Sunday” presented an obvious option. Toni will contact Angela H, SG&E chair, to see if we can work jointly.
-Lanie B graciously offered to contact the business office regularly for new member sign-up. She will send this info to Betty Ann and the two groups can find ways to personally welcome new families.
-It was decided to set a tentative potluck dinner for July 29 at 6pm. This is the weekend Fr Daniel McCaffrey will be conducting masses.
-Betty Ann will check with the office for SH hall availability and Toni will check with SG&E to make sure no other plans have been made at that time.
-A special effort to invite newer members to attend will be made.
Plans for the feast of Sacred Heart celebration were discussed.
-Betty Ann delegated phone calls to remind people to bring ice cream (and scoop!).
-Who is responsible for tables, cloths, paper goods, and trash containers were finalized.
-Concern about the ice cream melting was noted and Betty Ann will call Betty Miller to see if the containers can be stored in freezers until they are served.
The idea for a U/F banner was presented.
-All agreed this is a must.
-Suggestions for the banner’s wording and graphics were recorded. Toni will check with local sign makers for price and other ideas.
Plans for “Family Fun Day in September” outlined.
-A $50 reservation fee will need to be paid from U/F budget.
-It was suggested that some advertising go out soon to peak interest.
-The activities will begin after 10:30 mass.
-It will be potluck, bring your own chair, and leave your pocketbook at home!
-A children’s area is needed. Toni will contact a few groups to head this up.
-Dinner music or singing might be a nice touch
-Games such as cards, dominoes, and volleyball were discussed.
-A speaker system will be needed. A few ideas where to borrow from were mentioned.
-Paper goods, drinks and seating will be organized closer to event time.
Toni led closing prayer.
Next regular meeting is July 11 @ 7:30pm
