Meeting of the Unity and Fellowship

Minutes – October 10, 2006

Betty Flusche opened the meeting with all attending reciting the “ Prayer for the Church in Transition”.

Those present were:  Betty Rose Walterscheid, Werner Becker, Juanita Bright and Betty Flusche.

Betty Flusche thanked all for helping to make the first annual, “Family Day in the Park” a hugh success and for their hard work and dedication and for being there for the community.  We have gotten a lot of positive feed back from the people saying it was such a good thing for our whole community and what an enjoyable time it was and with plenty of delicious food. It was estimated that we had a crowd of approximately 450 to 500 people attending. We decided to select a specific date to hold this annual event and the 3rd Sunday in September was chosen…so next year, September 16, 2007 will be the day of our 2nd annual  “Family Day in the Park”.  Ideas of improvement for next year were discussed along with some new ideas of fun for all ages.

Accumulated expenses of the “Family Day in the Park” and of Fr. John’s farewell were collected from the members by Betty Flusche to be presented to the business office for reimbursement.

The committee asked Betty Flusche to contact Angela Hennigan of the Spiritual Growth and Education committee about our committee serving refreshments for their “Second Sunday” gathering each month.  Our committee doesn’t agree that we should be in charge each month to provide the refreshments, especially since this is not our function.

We discussed visiting new members of our parish and community to welcome them and to get acquainted. It was mentioned that Becky (Mosman) Edwards is very interested in being a part of our committee, but will not be able to attend our meetings due to the fact that she and her husband have another commitment every Tuesday evening.  She would be happy to assist someone in visiting the new members.  Juanita Bright said she would be in contact with Becky and keep her informed of what the committee is doing.

Juanita Bright is gathering up all items to be included in the “Welcome Packets” to be left at the Parish office for new members of our parish as they come to the office to sign in as a new member.  We decided to include information an Sacred Heart School, Muenster ISD School, the library and the new Parish Directory, when it they becomes available. Juanita Bright will check on the status of the Directory at this time. These packets will also be left at City Hall for new members in our community.

Juanita Bright will present the Liturgical Committee with the idea of outfitting the back of the pews in church, where the music books are, with a little box containing a signup card and a pencil for new members to fill out so they can be recognized in the near future.   We’ve seen this in other churches, and think this might be a better thing than the greeters handing them a card to fill out or having a box in the back of church.  Werner Becker suggested putting a notice in the bulletin, if this becomes a reality.

Betty Rose Walterscheid gave a report on the progress of our unity banner, and asked for some suggestions.  Juanita Bright gave the cloth to be used to make the banner.

Juanita Bright presented a program on the World Community Day which is an opportunity for Church Women to reach out in peace and acceptance to women of different faiths from different communities and neighborhoods.

Werner Becker prayed the closing prayer.
