Youth Council Minutes

August 8^th, 2006

 

Present for the meeting were:  John Bezner, Cliff Sicking, Laurie Valliere, Valerie Henscheid, Rita Bayer, Ashley Hartman, and Debbie Endres

 

Opened the meeting with praise and music let by Ashley.

 

Minutes

Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.

 

Budget

Dana reported that she paid for two meals and the bus cost for the kids that attended DCYC out of this year’s budget.  The trip to Main Event was paid entirely by an anonymous donor.

 

Youth Minister Report

• Dana is working with the Spiritual Growth Committee to get Jason Everett as a speaker for the youth.
• The DCYC conference went great.  31 youth and 7 adult chaperones attended.
• 75 kids went to Main Event and had an awesome time bowling, playing laser tag and video games, eating pizza, and hanging out with their friends. 
• Dana commented on the summer participation at the youth events.  Sometimes she had a lot of kids and sometimes very few.  Someone suggested doing a survey among the kids asking them what kind of activities they would like to have.  Perhaps there could be some activities for the 5^th and 6^th graders since they don’t have as much going on.
• The Jr. High Lock in was held at Turtle Hill conference center on July 27^th-28^th.  67 Jr. High kids and 10 High School Leaders attended the conference.  Dana supervised the high school leaders as they planned and ran the retreat.
• SHY & SHY Jr. Faith & Fun nights will kick off on August 27^th & August 30^th.

New Business

A.     Reorganize Youth Council-The Discernment meeting was not necessary because there were two people that expressed interest in joining the youth council.  John Walterscheid and Nicole Bayer are the two new members of the youth council.  Cliff asked if anyone would like to be the chair of the youth council.  Ashley Hartman agreed to take the chair position and Debbie Endres agreed to be the secretary

 

Everyone thanked Cliff for serving on the Youth Council and for serving as the chair for the last year.  Karen Dangelmayer will also be missed on the youth council.
