Youth Council Minutes

April 1, 2007

 

Present for the meeting were:  Nicole Bayer, Laurie Valliere, Deanna Hellman, Monica LeBrasseur, Valerie Henscheid, Debbie Endres, Ashley Hartman, & Dana Dittlinger.

 

Started the meeting with a prayer and discussion of the week’s Gospel.

 

Minutes of the February 11^th meeting were distributed and approved.

 

Budget

The youth ministry budget was submitted to the finance committee.  They will be looking at the parish budget this month. 

 

Dana asked Monica Koesler about the funds that are donated specifically to youth ministry.  There has been over $5,000 donated this year and we haven’t really used it.  Monica said that although it does go into the regular fund it is noted that these funds would be available for youth ministry in the future if we had a large project we needed to fund. 

 

Youth Minister Report

So far 20 kids and 4 chaperones have signed up to go to Pines Camp May 4^th-6^th.  Dana said more were interested but did not know if they would advance in academic and sporting events.  She called the camp and said that kids could sign up late if there was room available. 

 

Holy Week-Many youth are signed up to participate in Holy week services.

 

Spring Break-Dana focused on SHY Jr. kids over spring break.  There were activities planned every day.  She said it worked very well.

 

The bonfire is set for May 19^th.  The youth Mass has also been moved to this date because of Pines camp, Acts, and prom.  The spiritual committee will meet to plan the bridging and moving on ceremony for the Mass.  The social committee will be in charge of the food and transportation to the bonfire site. 

 

SHY Jr. will be doing a service project today, April 1^st from 2:00 – 5:30 at the ballpark.  John Walterscheid is in charge and he will serve hot dogs and drinks afterwards. 

 

Father Ken wants to offer two scholarships to graduating seniors.  It will be called the Pastor’s Youth Service Scholarship.  To be eligible for the scholarship the students will have to submit a resume and a 350 word essay on:  “How did you grow from a service project.”  The essays and resumes are due April 27^th and the winners will be announced at the Youth Mass on May 19^th. 

 

Council of Ministries Report

Dana attended the Council of Ministries meeting.  They were told that things may be changing at the Diocese.  Everyone was encouraged to utilize the resources that are available through the Diocese.

Social-Plans being made for meal at bonfire after Youth Mass-May 19^th.

Spiritual-Will meet to plan for Youth mass/Bridging ceremony and Feast of Sacred Heart.

C.     Debbie contacted Don Rohmer about putting the minutes on the website. 

She will send him the minutes from previous minutes and forward them monthly.

        

 

New Business

    Several members’ terms are up.  We will need to know pretty soon how many                 

    people will run again.
