5/20/99

Woah, I waited exactly a month to do an update.. Cool eh? Ok, maybe not. Boy, my regular hits sure have been going down since I didn't update for a month... hmm.. Anyway, finals are finally over and I've passed all of my classes. I didn't pass them with out a fight though. I had that evil compiler, assemlber and loader to code for my Systems Programming class. Well, I did 95% of the work in one 21.5 hour session. I sat down at 12:00 on a thursday and started working on the project. At 9:30 the next morning I finished up, gathered my books, and went to class (never stopping to sleep). It was completely insane. I was pretty much dead to the world for most of the weekend. But, I got the project finished. If I'd put that much effort into TLOT then I would probably polish off the battle engine in a single night. I thought I'd try that tonight actually. Here it is 1:30 in the morning and I still haven't gotten any kind of rythm going at all. So I'm updating the Web Site.

What have I gone for TLOT in the past month? Not much. I tried some tile editing but that failed. I've been coding tonight and the more code I write the more pathetic my old code looks. Starting over sure is tempting! I've done a little bit of map editing but nothing worth talking about. All in all, its been unproductive. The coding I've done is strictly battle engine code. So far I've defined some variables and tried to figure out the quickest way to blit my sprites. Because my backgrounds are static, it might be faster to load the character sprite, then fill all the transparent space with the background image. That way, when I blit to the screen, I don't have to check for transparency. Also, I don't have to worry about removing the old frame. This would be pretty fast, but then I wouldn't be able to move the sprite anywhere else on the screen.. which might be too confining. I donno, still workn' on it.

What have I done for Tempest? Well, its summer time and we've started hitting it hard. We're trying to get the ball moving now so when school starts back up again next fall we're sitting pretty. Its a long road though, and will consume a lot of my time. The most recent site we built was for Gathering's g.o.d. 3 booth at this past weekend's E3. We pretty much built that site in a single day.

Got some really cool news. The Zaskoda Soft Fan Page is back online! Thanks Feline! Also, I think there's still no winner on SnowCreekBerry's midi contest. Actually, she hasn't updated her page in a while so there might have been a winner. Everyone should e-mail her and tell her to update the site... heh.. yeah.. just don't tell her I sent you ;)

In other news, I've injured myself. I was running with the neighbor (for exercise) and I managed to step in a hole. I twisted my ankle very badly. I can kinda walk on it now, but its still very swolen. I was in pain most of the day yesterday, it was very difficult to concentrate on anything... thats actually why my tile editing efforts didn't go well.

Thats all the stuff I've got to talk about. I'll try to be a little less late on my next update.
