Yes! Another design by John Monnett.
This design has always
had
my attention, but cost and practicality kept me from acting on the
desire.
A friend popped off the other day, and wanted to know if I would ever
desire
having one!? Well, yes, but just having finished another project,
and
now owning 4 flying airplanes, the price would have to be a
steal!
Well, it was, so I now have my fifth airplane under roof.
Two weeks of mulling it over, I
lit
out of here at 2030 on Sunday evening, and headed south after the
bird. Arriving at 0200 in a small town, about 20 miles away, I
gave in and spent the night. The next morning, I headed out to
pack up the project. At first glance, one may think that it is
quite far along, but once you study
it for a while, you realize that you don't even have a quick build kit
here!
About noon on monday December 12th 2001, I headed home with all 120 or
so
pounds of Moni strapped to the trailer. I had to tie it tight,
since
there was not enough mass to allow the trailer to ride well.
Overall condition of the bird is
fine.
A few wrinkles from previous moves where straps were over
tightened.
All bare steel parts will have to be removed, and reworked due to a
significant
layer of rust. The fuselage is filled with dirt, as if it was
left
outside in the rain and dust.
Major concern at this point is time, money, and a powerplant? I'm trying my best to find a 4 cycle engine that would be useable on an aircraft this small. Several have been considered, but either weight, or the need for in flight restart, generally rules them out. Yes, I'm looking for a long shot, but long shots seem to be my field.
